Voyageur Pharmaceuticals Ltd. (TSX.V: VM) (OTC Pink: VYYRF) has reached a significant milestone in its collaboration with Bayer AG, receiving a USD $1 million payment after Bayer approved the feasibility work plan and timetable submitted by the company. This payment, the first of two milestone payments under the non-dilutive Collaboration and Funding Agreement dated February 10, 2026, brings total funds received from Bayer to USD $1.35 million, with the remaining USD $1 million expected upon completion of the feasibility study.
The approval follows successful laboratory validation of Voyageur's proprietary Mueller iodine extraction process, which produced iodine at 99.8% purity from produced water in the Anadarko Basin. This technical confirmation was essential for Bayer to advance the project. A transportable pilot plant is nearing completion and is scheduled for field operation this fall. The funding will enable Fluor Corporation to complete the FEL-3 feasibility study once pilot plant data are available.
Brent Willis, President and CEO of Voyageur, emphasized the importance of this achievement: "This milestone confirms that the feasibility work is advancing as planned and triggers the first major non-dilutive payment under the collaboration. This capital is expected to further accelerate our iodine supply strategy and move us closer to validating a reliable North American source of high-purity iodine for use in contrast media drugs."
The project aims to establish a production capacity of 1,000 tonnes of iodine per year, with a staged rollout beginning at 200 tonnes per year. If successful, the partnership could lead to a long-term offtake agreement and the construction of a central iodine manufacturing facility to produce USP-grade iodine for contrast drugs. This initiative is part of Voyageur's broader strategy to vertically integrate the supply chain for radiology drugs, reducing reliance on imported materials and lowering costs.
Fluor Corporation, a global engineering and construction firm, is providing engineering support, including thermodynamic modeling and project planning. The project is progressing through FEL-2 (Concept Design) and FEL-3 (Basic Design) phases, which are expected to take four to five months and seven to nine months, respectively, with increasing cost-estimate accuracy.
The global contrast media market is estimated at approximately USD $7.06 billion, according to Market Research Future. Voyageur's strategy includes near-term revenue from barium contrast sales, iodine sales under the Bayer collaboration, and longer-term opportunities in contrast drug manufacturing. The company also owns the Frances Creek barium project, which it believes offers a rare high-grade mineral suitable for pharmaceutical use.

The successful completion of this study could pave the way for a secure, domestic supply of high-purity iodine, a critical component in medical imaging, and enhance the resilience of the pharmaceutical supply chain.
