UGI Utilities employees are donating hundreds of literacy kits to schools as part of the company’s celebration of 35 years of partnering with Reading Is Fundamental (RIF). The initiative underscores the company's long-standing commitment to fostering literacy and supporting education in the communities it serves.
UGI Utilities, a natural gas and electric utility serving more than 760,000 customers in 46 counties in Pennsylvania and one county in Maryland, has been a RIF partner since 1991. Over the past three and a half decades, the partnership has provided books and literacy resources to countless children, helping to ignite a passion for reading. The literacy kits distributed this year include books and educational materials designed to support learning both in the classroom and at home.
“We are proud to continue our tradition of supporting literacy and education,” said John Mason, a spokesperson for UGI Utilities. “Our employees are dedicated to giving back, and this program allows us to make a direct impact on students’ lives.” The kits are being delivered to schools across the utility’s service territory, with a focus on underserved communities where access to books may be limited.
Reading Is Fundamental, the largest children’s literacy nonprofit in the United States, has been a key partner in this effort. The organization works to inspire children to read by providing books and resources, and UGI’s support helps extend that mission to local schools. The partnership also includes volunteer opportunities for UGI employees, who participate in reading events and book distributions throughout the year.
The announcement comes as part of UGI’s broader community engagement efforts.
