Trilogy Metals Provides Update on Proposed U.S. Department of War Investment

Trilogy Metals Inc. (NYSE American: TMQ) (TSX: TMQ) has provided an update on its previously announced proposed strategic equity investment of approximately US$35.6 million from the U.S. Department of War (DOW). The investment is intended to support continued exploration and development activities at the Upper Kobuk Mineral Projects in northwestern Alaska.

The company stated that discussions with the DOW remain ongoing and that the letter of intent signed in October 2025 remains in effect as both parties continue to advance negotiations. This update underscores the significance of the potential federal backing, which could accelerate the development of one of the most prospective copper districts in the world.

The Upper Kobuk Mineral Projects (UKMP) are located within the Ambler Mining District, which hosts polymetallic volcanogenic massive sulfide (VMS) deposits containing copper, zinc, lead, gold, and silver, as well as carbonate replacement deposits with high-grade copper and cobalt. Trilogy Metals holds a 50% interest in Ambler Metals LLC, which owns 100% of the UKMP, and has formed a 50/50 joint venture with South32, a globally diversified mining and metals company.

This potential investment from the DOW is notable for its strategic implications. It highlights the growing importance of domestic mineral supply chains, particularly for critical minerals like copper, which are essential for national security, infrastructure, and clean energy technologies. By investing in the Upper Kobuk projects, the U.S. government signals its commitment to reducing reliance on foreign sources of these vital resources.

The funding would enable Trilogy Metals to advance exploration and development activities, potentially bringing the Arctic VMS deposit and the Bornite carbonate replacement deposit closer to production. These deposits are part of a land package spanning approximately 190,929 hectares, with an agreement with NANA Regional Corporation, Inc., an Alaska Native Corporation, ensuring cooperation with local communities and respect for subsistence livelihoods.

For investors, this development is a positive signal. It not only validates the strategic value of the UKMP but also provides a potential source of non-dilutive capital that could de-risk the project and enhance its long-term viability. The ongoing discussions with the DOW could lead to a formal agreement that would significantly bolster the company's financial position.

As the world transitions to a low-carbon economy, the demand for copper is expected to surge. The Ambler Mining District, with its rich copper and cobalt resources, is well-positioned to play a crucial role in meeting this demand. The potential U.S. government investment underscores the project's national importance and could pave the way for further public-private partnerships.

Trilogy Metals remains focused on its vision of developing the Ambler Mining District into a premier North American copper producer while protecting and respecting subsistence livelihoods. The company continues to engage with stakeholders and advance its exploration programs, and this update provides clarity on the status of the proposed investment.
