Top motivational speaker and bestselling author Rocky Romanella sees the value of AI, but recognizes that while AI can produce, it cannot lead. He believes the future still belongs to leaders who lead with humanity. In a recent newsletter he wrote in part: "AI is everywhere in our headlines, our boardrooms, our classrooms, and our conversations. It is reshaping industries, accelerating decisions, and redefining how work gets done. But for all its power, AI still lacks the two things that have always moved people, teams, and organizations forward: A heart. And a soul."
Romanella's keynote, The Heart and Soul of AI, challenges leaders to recommit to their people, purpose, and values. He argues that AI can analyze data but cannot create meaning, generate options but not belief, or automate tasks but not build trust. "AI can accelerate the work but only leaders can advance their people," he writes. The keynote introduces the AIAI (Am I All In?) operating system, which asks leaders to show up fully with clarity, courage, and conviction.
Drawing from a personal story, Romanella recalls his wife Debbie's answer when asked which of their children was her favorite: "They all are, because everyone gets what they need when they need it." This moment, he says, taught him that leadership is about understanding individuals and meeting them where they are. "That single moment reshaped how I led teams, coached leaders, and built organizations," he notes.
With over four decades of experience at UPS and as a CEO, Romanella has witnessed technological shifts from clipboards to AI. He emphasizes that technology changes the work, but leadership must still lift the people. His keynote addresses three essential questions every leader must master: What is the issue or opportunity? How do I get my team aligned and committed? How do I turn intent into business results?
Romanella's insights are available through various resources on his website, including his Forbes contributions at https://www.3sixtymanagementservices.com/forbes-business-council/, his podcast The Leadership Library Podcast at https://tightenthelugnuts.com/, and his bestselling book Tighten The Lug Nuts: The Principles Of Balanced Leadership, which recently achieved number one bestseller status in Business Management and Business Leadership. Romanella's message resonates in a world where AI is reshaping industries but cannot replicate human connection. As he puts it, "It could not have inspired the 1980 U.S. Olympic hockey team to the Miracle on Ice. It cannot ignite passion. It cannot create belonging."
