The Great Greek Mediterranean Grill®, a fast-casual brand known for authentic Mediterranean flavors, has opened new restaurants in Canada, Australia, and Egypt as part of an accelerated international expansion. The openings coincide with the brand's 15th anniversary and reflect increasing global demand for fresh Mediterranean cuisine.
Backed by United Franchise Group™ (UFG), the brand is entering regions where it can leverage existing operational support. This follows a master franchise agreement to expand into Guyana and seven Caribbean countries. The international growth highlights the strength of the franchise model and the caliber of operators attracted to the brand.
In Cairo, Egypt, franchise owner Metry Habashy opened the first Middle Eastern location at Regent's High Street. Habashy, an existing franchisee who owns a location in Old Bridge, New Jersey, that set a weekly opening sales record, expressed strong confidence in the brand. The Cairo restaurant incorporates local adaptations such as Arabic language integration, adjusted beverage offerings, and extended hours until midnight, along with fresh hand-made pita prepared in-house.
In Queensland, Australia, franchise owners Chirayushkumar Patel and Surjit Salwan opened in Fortitude Valley, marking the brand's entry into the Australian market. They plan to develop at least 50 locations across the region. The soft opening attracted around 100 guests, including representatives from the mayor's office, indicating strong community interest.
In Alberta, Canada, multi-unit franchise owners Amrinder Cheema, Gurbinder Singh, and Poonam Goyal expanded the brand's presence with a new restaurant in Calgary. This is the third location in Alberta, reflecting strong early performance and quick execution. The team plans continued development across the province.
Bob Andersen, President of The Great Greek Mediterranean Grill, noted the significance of established and new franchisees reinvesting in the brand and scaling quickly. He emphasized that the concept resonates across cultures while allowing for thoughtful localization. The brand's international pipeline continues to grow, with more openings expected.
