Smart Lighting Expo and Hong Kong International Lighting Fair (Spring Edition) Open Today, Showcasing 900 Exhibitors and Debuting 'Light Lab'

The 3rd Smart Lighting Expo and the 17th Hong Kong International Lighting Fair (Spring Edition), organized by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), opened today at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre and will run through April 23. Under the theme “Go Smart, Live Green,” the twin fairs debut the “Light Lab,” a new zone focusing on lighting solutions that combine innovation and sustainability. The fairs bring together some 900 exhibitors, including newcomers from the Netherlands and Vietnam, and feature industry leaders such as Absen, whose LED displays were used at the World Cup and World Expos, and Shanghai Sansi, which supplies over 60% of the screens in New York's Times Square.

Jenny Koo, Deputy Executive Director of the HKTDC, noted that the Smart Lighting Expo, part of Business of Innovation and Technology Week (BIT Week), introduces the Smart Commercial Display & Stage Audio-Visual Zone, featuring lighting products for cultural tourism and performing arts. The fairs aim to promote Hong Kong as an international innovation and technology hub and support the mega-event economy through cross-industry exchange.

According to Statista, the global smart lighting market is expected to reach US$44 billion by 2030. The International Energy Agency has indicated that a second wave of LED transformation is imminent, particularly in regions with low LED penetration. Early-generation LED products, accounting for nearly 15% of global residential fixtures, are reaching the end of their service life, creating demand for high-efficiency and intelligent lighting systems.

The newly introduced “Light Lab” in Hall 3 features three scenario-based designs: the Lumin Garden showcases garden lighting and smart lamp posts; the Lumin Arena presents professional-grade stadium lights; and the Lumin Gallery focuses on high-end museum lighting. Notable exhibitors include Shanghai Sansi LED Lighting, which presents plant lighting fixtures with proprietary ceramic technology, and Foshan Electrical and Lighting, which offers the FSeries stadium lights made with full aluminum forging technology, reducing weight by 20% to 45%.

Group pavilions include Zhongshan City as a Special Partner City, with the Zhongshan Guzhen and Henglan Pavilions forming the Zhongshan Smart Home Zone. The Shanghai Pudong Intelligent Lighting Association returns for the third consecutive year, setting up the Smart Ecosystem and IoT Supply Chain Area with brands like BWEETECH, AIDimming, Darkoo, and TYF. Pavilions from Shenzhen, Xiamen, Changzhou Zouqu, and Zhejiang also participate.

Four major lighting trends are on display: smart lighting, green lighting, entertainment lighting, and human-centric lighting. Smart lighting exhibitors include BWEETECH, showcasing its Bwee Smart Control Knob, and KC Lighting, presenting the M7 Micro 48V Track System. Green lighting products include Absen's A25 Series low-carbon LED display and Guangdong Zhongqian New Energy's solar street lights. Entertainment lighting features Zhongyuan Innovation's Ambit 3 + Spot GREENTEK dynamic backlight and Zhongshan Walton Lighting's Gobo Projection Light. Human-centric lighting includes Shenzhen Norming Lighting's dim-to-warm track lights and Mascuge's aroma diffuser humidifying lamp.

The fairs also host two major forums: the Asian Lighting Forum on April 20-21, focusing on immersive entertainment lighting and landscape lighting design, and the Smart Lighting Solution Forum on April 21, discussing smart home lighting and the lighting supply chain ecosystem. Exhibitor Opple Lighting, as the official partner of the buyers’ VIP lounge, showcases its SDL smart spectral lighting technology.
