Quantum BioPharma's MS Imaging Study Shows Promising Early Results

Quantum BioPharma (NASDAQ: QNTM) (CSE: QNTM) has announced that its pilot multiple sclerosis (MS) imaging study, conducted in collaboration with Massachusetts General Hospital, has reached the halfway point in patient enrollment. Preliminary PET imaging data from the study have shown encouraging signals in acute MS lesions, according to a recent article. The novel imaging technique is designed to distinguish demyelinated nerve fibers that may still be viable from permanent nerve damage, potentially offering a more precise way to measure myelin loss and repair.

These findings are directly relevant to Lucid-MS, the company's investigational compound designed to inhibit demyelination by targeting the enzyme PAD2, which is implicated in myelin degradation. A more precise imaging tool and a drug candidate designed to address the underlying cause of MS make for a compelling combination. Reaching the enrollment midpoint with promising early data suggests the science is holding up under real clinical conditions.

The ability to accurately measure myelin loss and repair is a significant unmet need in MS research. Current imaging methods often fail to distinguish between myelin that is damaged but potentially repairable and permanent axonal loss. This new technique could provide a more sensitive biomarker for clinical trials, enabling faster and more reliable evaluation of potential therapies like Lucid-MS.

Quantum BioPharma is a biopharmaceutical company dedicated to building a portfolio of innovative assets and biotech solutions for the treatment of challenging neurodegenerative and metabolic disorders and alcohol misuse disorders with drug candidates in different stages of development. Through its wholly owned subsidiary, Lucid Psycheceuticals Inc., Quantum BioPharma is focused on the research and development of its lead compound, Lucid-MS. Lucid-MS is a patented new chemical entity shown to prevent and reverse myelin degradation, the underlying mechanism of multiple sclerosis, in preclinical models.

The company also invented unbuzzd and spun out its OTC version to a company, Unbuzzd Wellness Inc. (UWI), led by industry veterans. Quantum BioPharma retains ownership of 19.84% (as of March 31, 2026) of UWI at www.unbuzzd.com. The agreement with UWI also includes royalty payments of 7% of sales from unbuzzd until payments to Quantum BioPharma total $250 million. Once $250 million is reached, the royalty drops to 3% in perpetuity. Quantum BioPharma retains 100% of the rights to develop similar product or alternative formulations specifically for pharmaceutical and medical uses.
