Paintings by artist Pam Skehan, currently on view at Wine Art Gallery, have been selected for the Louisiana Contemporary exhibition at the Ogden Museum of Southern Art. The exhibition, presented by The Helis Foundation, marks its 15th anniversary this year and features 50 works by 45 artists chosen from over 1,786 submissions. Juror Sarah Jones, the Lulu C. and Anthony W. Wang Head of Live Arts at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, curated the selection.
The Louisiana Contemporary exhibition, which runs from August 1, 2026, to February 14, 2027, was launched in 2012 as an annual juried exhibition celebrating artists living in Louisiana. It has since featured work by more than 650 artists, establishing itself as a significant event on the national arts calendar. The exhibition recognizes and celebrates the breadth of creative voices emerging from New Orleans and arts communities throughout the state.
Pam Skehan's selected paintings, "Woman in Waiting" and "Tipping Point," can be viewed at Wine Art Gallery, located on Julia Street in New Orleans' Arts District. The gallery aims to give back to emerging artists while honoring the unique history of New Orleans. According to the gallery, over 80% of its artists are female or underrepresented artists, and it represents a diverse mixture of local, British, French, and Spanish artists.
The selection of Skehan's work underscores the gallery's commitment to showcasing new talent. "Wine Art Gallery works very hard to find new local talent. What makes The Gallery different is the constant search for new international artists as well as its effort to give a voice to those who may not otherwise have one," the gallery states.
