Opawica Explorations Inc. (TSXV: OPW) (FSE: A2PEAD) (OTCQB: OPWEF) has announced a comprehensive exploration update for its 100%-owned Arrowhead Gold Property, located in the Abitibi Greenstone Belt of Quebec. The company has outlined a strategy for approximately 10,000 metres of high-priority drilling, with permits already secured for 25 drill-pad locations. This drilling campaign is designed to systematically test high-priority targets generated from an extensive dataset that includes geological compilation, geophysics, seismic surveying, artificial-intelligence-assisted targeting, and 3D modelling.
The Arrowhead property holds a strategic position, immediately adjacent to Agnico Eagle Mines Limited's LaRonde Complex, which has produced over eight million ounces of gold since 1988. While mineralization on adjacent properties is not necessarily indicative of Arrowhead's potential, the location within an established producing district adds to the property's appeal. Opawica's management believes that Arrowhead is at a critical juncture, transitioning from extensive historical and modern data compilation to a focused drilling phase.
The exploration history of Arrowhead spans nearly a century, beginning in the 1920s with prospecting, trenching, pitting, and underground workings. Historical work reported gold values as high as 45.05 g/t Au and chip samples up to 90.75 g/t Au over 1.0 metre. These historical results have not been independently verified, but they provide a foundation for modern exploration. What sets Arrowhead apart today is the layering of modern geological information over this historical mineralized system.
In 2022, Opawica completed its inaugural modern diamond-drill program at Arrowhead, consisting of 4,306 metres across 14 holes and 1,590 rock samples. The program confirmed gold mineralization along an approximately one-kilometre strike length, with 11 holes intersecting zones grading greater than 1.0 g/t Au. Notable results included 18.7 g/t Au over 0.35 metres with 0.72% Cu in hole AR-22-01, and 1.52 g/t Au over 14.8 metres in AR-22-04. The drilling identified gold in shear zones with quartz-carbonate-tourmaline veins within mafic volcanic rocks and mineralized felsic tuffs. Despite these successes, nine target zones from the 2022 program remained untested, and the upcoming 10,000-metre program aims to test these and other high-priority targets, including deeper extensions.
The planned drilling is intended to test the continuity, extensions, and potential depth of known gold mineralization, as well as to evaluate targets derived from the comprehensive dataset. This program represents a significant escalation in exploration effort and could be pivotal in determining the property's resource potential. The company's approach, combining historical data with modern techniques, positions Arrowhead for a major phase of exploration that could unlock its full potential.
