ICON Smile Studios, a Hampton Roads specialty dental group, has opened two flagship multidisciplinary campuses in Virginia Beach and Norfolk, representing the organization's most significant expansion to date. The new locations, at 125 Independence Boulevard in Virginia Beach and 155 Kingsley Lane in Norfolk, unite the group's specialty brands—Behl Orthodontics, Madan Periodontics & Implant Dentistry, and ICON Pediatric Dentistry—along with oral and maxillofacial surgery and sedation dentistry under one roof. This integrated model aims to enhance patient experience and clinical outcomes by allowing patients of all ages to receive coordinated, specialist-level care without the need for referrals across multiple offices.
Dr. Yugal Behl, co-founder of ICON Smile Studios, emphasized the vision behind the expansion: "For more than 20 years, my goal has been to bring specialist-level orthodontic and dental care to every family in Hampton Roads, no matter their zip code. These flagship campuses are the clearest expression yet of that vision—bringing together the specialties families need most, under one roof, in one visit."
The organization's roots trace back to 1960 with the founding of Fulton Orthodontics, one of the region's pioneering orthodontic practices, followed by Albinder Orthodontics a decade later. Both practices, along with Virginia Beach Orthodontics, have been integrated into the Behl Orthodontics network, which Dr. Behl has grown to seven locations across Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, Suffolk, Hampton, and Yorktown since 2010. Dr. Behl's credentials include advanced training at Boston University, where he earned a Doctor of Science in Oral Biology and specialty certification in orthodontics. He is also a Diamond Invisalign provider and recently completed an Executive MBA at William & Mary's Raymond A. Mason School of Business.
Dr. Monika Madan, co-founder and periodontist, highlighted the collaborative benefits: "Patients shouldn't have to navigate five different offices to get the care their smile needs. When our specialists can collaborate under one roof, patients get better outcomes and a far less stressful experience—and that's exactly what these new flagships are built for."
The openings mark the start of a multi-year expansion plan, with new locations slated for Hampton in 2027 and Williamsburg in 2028. Dr. Behl reflected on the future: "The next 60 years are about honoring the past while investing in the future. That means developing exceptional leaders, advancing specialty dentistry and continuing to serve generations of Hampton Roads families—the same way Fulton Orthodontics and Albinder Orthodontics did for us."
ICON Smile Studios operates across the region, and its integrated approach reflects a broader trend in dentistry toward multidisciplinary practices. Patients can now access orthodontics, periodontics, pediatric dentistry, and oral surgery in a single, coordinated visit, promising improved convenience and care continuity.
