Huawei has officially announced the HUAWEI Mate XT 2 | ULTIMATE DESIGN, a new tri-fold smartphone that marks the first mass commercialization of the LogicFolding Tau (τ) Chip. This move underscores Huawei's continued leadership in foldable device innovation and its ability to integrate advanced semiconductor technology into consumer products.

The device is powered by the Kirin 9050 Pro chip, which Huawei claims delivers a 42% improvement in overall performance compared to the previous generation. This is achieved through deep collaboration between hardware, software, chips, and cloud technologies. The chipset includes the LinxiCore CPU, Maleoon GPU with doubled computing units, and a Da Vinci Architecture NPU that natively supports large AI models like Pangu 30B-A2B MoE LLM.

One of the most notable features is the Xuanwu Ultra-Durable Tri-Fold Architecture, which not only provides enhanced durability but also achieves an industry-first IP58/59 dust and water resistance rating for a tri-fold phone. The cover screen is made of Xuanwu Kunlun Glass with anti-glare properties, while the main screen incorporates a multi-layer composite structure with UTG glass, aerospace-grade steel, and carbon fiber support.

The smartphone also introduces the industry's first foldable Smart Shield Privacy Screen, offering hardware-level privacy protection. It uses an independent dual-pixel design that maintains screen resolution when privacy mode is activated, and it can intelligently sense environments like airports or train stations to suggest privacy activation.

In terms of photography, the Mate XT 2 features the True-to-Color Camera 3.0 system, which improves color reproduction by 95% over its predecessor. It includes an ultra-HDR main camera, periscope telephoto, and ultra-wide angle lenses, all enhanced by XMAGE SmartCapture for intelligent scene recognition and AIGC real-time previews.

The device runs on HarmonyOS 7, offering a large-screen experience with Live-Multitask capabilities, allowing three windows to run in parallel with adjustable sizes and independent volume controls. It has been adapted for various scenarios including finance, social media, office work, and travel.

Additionally, the Mate XT 2 includes ECG analysis software and has received NMPA Class II Medical Device Registration, enabling users to perform electrocardiograms by holding the device with both hands. The phone also supports satellite communication via Tiantong and Beidou, ensuring connectivity in remote areas.

The HUAWEI Mate XT 2 | ULTIMATE DESIGN starts at RMB 19,999 and will be available starting September 12th. This launch positions Huawei to capitalize on the growing demand for premium foldable devices, offering a unique combination of cutting-edge technology and design.
