The Hong Kong Tech Pavilion at VivaTech 2026, held in Paris last week, successfully showcased 24 local innovation and technology enterprises to global investors and industry players. Organized by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) with strategic partner the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Brussels, the pavilion highlighted Hong Kong's I&T capabilities and helped start-ups seize European market opportunities.
Among the participants, Formwork IO, a developer of carbon-negative construction materials, was selected as a top 30 finalist for VivaTech's "Tech for Change" Award, recognizing start-ups leveraging technology for positive environmental or social impact. Additionally, PointFit Technology and Robocore Technology Limited were chosen to give live demonstrations at VivaTech's Discovery Stage, showcasing innovations in health technology and robotics. These achievements demonstrate the international competitiveness of Hong Kong start-ups.
Several companies established concrete business connections. Robocare Technology is negotiating with JCDecaux, a French outdoor advertising company, to provide 1,000 robots for marketing campaigns, building on a connection made at last year's VivaTech. LeafIoT Technology Limited signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Lecco Campus of Politecnico di Milano to collaborate on smart tree monitoring solutions, aiming to expand into the European market. These outcomes highlight the pavilion's role in fostering cross-regional collaborations.
HKTDC's Chris Lo, Regional Director for Europe, Central Asia & Israel, stated that the pavilion achieved excellent results, facilitating multiple collaborations and supporting start-ups' global expansion. During the event, thematic seminars and networking events were held, including a session titled "Building Resilient Tech Ecosystems: Powering the Next Wave of International Tech Leadership from Hong Kong," where Shirley Yung, Special Representative for Hong Kong Economic & Trade Affairs to the EU, emphasized Hong Kong's advantages in research, capital, and connectivity to the Greater Bay Area.
The HKTDC continues to support start-ups through participation in major international tech exhibitions, following appearances at CES 2026 in Las Vegas and MWC in Barcelona.
