The Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) will bring its flagship promotional campaign, Think Business, Think Hong Kong (TBTHK), to Kuala Lumpur on August 11, targeting Malaysian businesses with regional and global ambitions. The full-day symposium at Shangri-La Kuala Lumpur will connect Malaysian companies with Hong Kong business leaders, investors, and professional services experts to explore cross-border partnerships and opportunities.
As Malaysia pursues its New Industrial Master Plan 2030, focusing on industrial transformation, sustainability, and global value chain integration, TBTHK will illustrate how Hong Kong can support these goals. Hong Kong, home to nearly 10,000 Chinese Mainland and overseas companies with regional operations, serves as Asia's leading international financial and business centre. For Malaysian firms, it offers access to an ecosystem of global businesses, investors, and professional service providers that facilitate market entry, cross-border investment, and international expansion.
Leung Kwan Ho, HKTDC’s Regional Director of South East Asia & South Asia, emphasized the strong bilateral ties: “Malaysia and Hong Kong share a long-standing and mutually beneficial economic relationship built on strong trade, investment and growing business connectivity. As Malaysia strengthens its position as a regional hub for business, manufacturing and innovation, Hong Kong can serve as a superconnector and super value-adder, enabling Malaysian companies to realise their ambitions beyond the domestic market.”
The symposium will cover key topics including RMB internationalisation, sustainability and green innovations, Hong Kong's role as an international financial centre, and healthcare solutions. Notable guests include Algernon Yau, Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development of the Hong Kong SAR Government, and YB Loke Siew Fook, Minister of Transport Malaysia.
Approximately 30 Hong Kong service providers and start-ups will showcase their products in the Business Support Zone and InnoVenture Salon. One-on-one business consultations and on-site matching will facilitate deals. A delegation of around 100 government officials and business leaders from various sectors will explore opportunities through discussions and networking events.
The event underscores the deepening Malaysia-Hong Kong economic relationship. In 2025, Malaysia was Hong Kong’s 3rd largest trading partner among ASEAN member states. Hong Kong was Malaysia’s 2nd largest investor after Singapore, with cumulative FDI of US$34.8 billion at end-2025, and net FDI flow of US$1.6 billion in that year.
