HKTDC Food Expo Opens with Focus on Wellness and Global Flavours

The Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) opened its 36th Food Expo, along with the Beauty & Wellness Expo and Home Delights Expo, at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre on August 13. Running through August 17, the fairs bring together more than 1,850 exhibitors from over 30 countries and regions under the theme “Live Well. Stay Well,” reflecting the growing integration of wellness into daily life.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, HKTDC Council Member Dr. Jonathan Choi emphasized that wellness has become an integral part of everyday life, influencing the food and beverages people enjoy, how they care for their homes, and how they nurture physical and mental well-being. The fairs offer a wide range of products and experiences to support healthier, happier lifestyles. HKTDC Executive Director Sophia Chong highlighted Hong Kong’s role as a key food trading hub, serving as a platform for global food enterprises to expand into the Chinese Mainland, Asia, and international markets.

The fairs feature “Five Themed Days” to promote quality living. The first day, “Happy Eat Happy Life,” focuses on balanced nutrition, showcasing products like cistanche health drinks, ready-to-eat bird’s nest, and organic dried blueberries. The Home Delights Expo features a high-speed food processor for texture-modified meals, aiding the elderly and those with swallowing difficulties. The Beauty & Wellness Expo offers complimentary health assessments, including traditional Chinese wellness consultations and stress tests.

“The World in Blink” on August 14 highlights global delicacies, including South African honey, Finnair’s inflight chocolates, and Peruvian cacao nibs. Asian flavours include Singaporean pandan chiffon cakes, Thai tea, and Korean probiotic yoghurt. The day also features cultural activities like embroidery workshops and ethnic dance performances.

On August 15, “Coffee or Tea?” showcases a dedicated Coffee Zone with Yunnan coffee, Myanmar Arabica beans, and Kona coffee. The Hong Kong International Tea Fair presents rare teas, including purple bud raw Pu'er tea and ceremonial-grade matcha from Guizhou and Zhejiang. New zones include the Yixing Zisha Teaware Pavilion and a “Tea Lifestyle” area with innovations like Pu'er coffee tea and LockCha beer.

“Stay Fresh, Stay Ahead” on August 16 focuses on premium fresh produce. Hong Kong’s Fish Marketing Organization and Vegetable Marketing Organization introduce their new unified brand, “Hong Kong Harvest.” The Chinese Mainland pavilion presents hundreds of agricultural products, including Yunnan ham, Xinjiang wines, and Hainan coconut water. The Gourmet Zone celebrates its 15th edition with 15 star chefs demonstrating exquisite dishes.

The final day, “Let’s Chill,” introduces a new “Stay Relax” zone in the Beauty & Wellness Expo, featuring a red-light therapy pod and pain-relief wellness products. The Home Delights Expo hosts “Go Sleep Exp,” an immersive exhibit exploring the sleep journey. The Food Expo adds a Dessert and Gelato Theme with over 100 desserts and specialty ice cream flavours.

For trade visitors, Food Expo PRO introduces a “Meat Zone” and a “Food Science and Technology Zone” focusing on alternative foods and food-service technologies. For the first time, pet food products are showcased, with a Hong Kong exhibitor using patented packaging technology for room-temperature storage. The halal food and beverage label returns for the third year, with over 130 exhibitors from various markets.

The International Conference on the Modernization of Chinese Medicine & Health Products (ICMCM) runs concurrently, focusing on “Clinical Translation, Regulatory Policies and Global Innovative Pathways of Traditional Medicine.” The conference, expanded to three days, features over 30 speakers from multiple countries and aims to facilitate international exchange in Chinese medicine.

To celebrate HKTDC’s 60th anniversary, special promotions include free admission before noon each day (quota of 600 visitors) and “6”-themed offers from exhibitors. Visitors can also participate in lucky draws and the “Smart Bidding” session, where products start at 10% of the original price. E-tickets are available through various platforms, and the “August Happy Buy” website (https://ecoupon.hktdc.com/food/tabs/home) offers additional savings.
