Frontieras North America and Western Fuels have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to jointly develop a processing facility at the Dry Fork Mine near Gillette, Wyoming, that will use Frontieras' patented FASForm technology. The agreement outlines long-term plans for the facility to initially receive up to 2.7 million tons of coal annually, with potential expansion to 5.4 million tons at full build-out. Western Fuels has also committed to purchasing ultra-low-sulfur diesel produced at the facility and may leverage its transportation capabilities to distribute the product streams.
The proposed facility is a cornerstone of Frontieras' strategy to scale its FASForm Solid Carbon Fractionation technology across Wyoming and the western United States. FASForm employs a continuous, closed-loop process that converts coal into products such as FASCarbon, ultra-low-sulfur diesel, and naphtha. Under the MOU, the FASCarbon produced at the Wyoming site could be supplied to Western Fuels Association member utilities under separate agreements or sold on international markets.
This collaboration represents a significant step toward demonstrating the commercial viability of converting coal into cleaner fuels and chemicals, a development that could have major implications for the coal industry and the broader energy transition.
