A community-wide effort to address food insecurity in Middlesex County resulted in an estimated 2,500 to 3,000 pounds of food collected during the August 5 "Flood the Food Banks" drive. The initiative, organized in partnership with Middlesex United Way as part of the Middlesex Pantry Project, distributed contributions among 13 food pantries and food banks across the county, including two direct drop-offs to smaller pantries.
The one-day drive saw residents donate non-perishable staples such as canned vegetables, soup, pasta, rice, peanut butter, cereal, shelf-stable milk, canned tuna and chicken, and macaroni and cheese. Collection points were set up at participating grocery stores and community locations. The Flood Law Firm served as presenting partner, helping raise awareness and encouraging participation. Members of the firm also volunteered, interacting with residents and contributing directly to organizations combating food insecurity.
The event underscored the importance of year-round donations. While charitable giving often spikes during the holidays, local pantries serve families throughout the year. By coordinating this August drive, organizers aimed to provide additional resources to support communities when need is ongoing. Brian Flood, of The Flood Law Firm, stated, "Giving back to the communities where we live, work, and serve our clients is an important part of who we are. Flood the Food Banks brought our team together with Middlesex United Way and community members for a meaningful effort that will help support families and individuals throughout Middlesex County."
The drive received local media coverage, including reporting from WTNH on the event and a sponsored feature highlighting the partnership. The results demonstrate the impact of community collaboration, with thousands of pounds of food and financial contributions reaching organizations serving Middlesex County residents.
