FleetCollect, a trucking compliance software platform for owner-operators and small fleets, has introduced an AI connector that enables users to query their IFTA fuel tax, DOT compliance, and carrier data using natural language through AI assistants like Claude and ChatGPT. Built on the Model Context Protocol (MCP), an open standard for securely linking AI to external data, the connector aims to eliminate the need for manual data retrieval from various systems.
For many small carriers, essential operational answers are scattered across quarterly IFTA reports, driver files, dispatch logs, and federal databases. Accessing this information typically requires navigating multiple screens. The new connector simplifies this by allowing operators to connect their FleetCollect account to an AI assistant once and then ask questions directly. For instance, users can ask, "What were my IFTA miles by state for the last quarter?" or "Which of my drivers have documents expiring in the next 30 days?" and receive immediate, plain-language responses drawn from their own data.
Beyond a carrier's internal records, the connector also offers live FMCSA carrier vetting. By entering a USDOT or MC number, users can obtain real-time data on operating authority, insurance, and safety information from the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration. This feature is particularly useful for brokers and dispatchers needing to verify partners without leaving their conversation.
Security and privacy are paramount in the design of the connector. All 14 tools within the connector are read-only, meaning the AI can only retrieve and summarize information, not modify or delete any data. Driver personally identifiable information, such as emails, phone numbers, and license numbers, is filtered out and never returned. Each request is scoped to the authenticated account, ensuring operators only access their own data. The connector employs OAuth 2.1 with Dynamic Client Registration and PKCE, a modern authentication standard, allowing users to authorize the connection with their existing FleetCollect login and revoke it at any time.
Herman Armstrong, founder of FleetCollect, explained the motivation behind the tool: "Owner-operators didn't get into trucking to click through dashboards. We built this so a driver can just ask — 'what do I owe in IFTA,' 'which of my guys is about to expire,' 'is this carrier legit' — and get a straight answer from their own numbers. We made it read-only and privacy-filtered on purpose: it answers questions, it doesn't touch your data."
The connector is now available to FleetCollect subscribers and is being submitted to the Claude connector directory and the ChatGPT app directory. Operators can connect using the server URL https://app.fleetcollect.net/mcp. More details are available at https://fleetcollect.net/developers.
FleetCollect's platform already includes IFTA fuel tax tracking, DOT Driver Qualification File management under 49 CFR Part 391, and a nationwide DOT drug and alcohol testing program. With this new connector, these services become accessible through AI assistants, marking a significant step in making compliance data more approachable for small carriers.
