Hundreds of Carson youth will join Olympic Gold Medalist Steve Lewis, Team USA Rugby Sevens player Marcus Tupuola, City leaders and LA28 representatives in a celebration that underscores Carson's commitment to engaging residents in the Games. The Carson Experience, a new initiative, will connect residents to the 2028 Olympics through community events, activations and celebrations leading up to the Games, while showcasing local pride and inspiring the next generation.
The unveiling of the nearly 700-pound Olympic countdown clock symbolizes the official start of Carson's countdown to LA28. Carson is one of several venue cities hosting Olympic and Paralympic competitions, and this initiative aims to build excitement and involvement among its diverse population. The event is part of a broader effort to enhance the quality of life for residents and businesses through engagement and the efficient delivery of exceptional services, as outlined in the city's mission.
Olympic Gold Medalist Steve Lewis, who won gold in the 4x400m relay at the 1988 Seoul Olympics, and Marcus Tupuola, a member of the U.S. rugby sevens team, will participate in the festivities, emphasizing the role of athletes in inspiring youth. The collaboration between Olympians, local youth and city leaders highlights the importance of community involvement in the lead-up to the Games.
The Carson Experience is designed to be a comprehensive program that will include various activities and events over the next two years, aiming to create a lasting impact on residents. By engaging the community early, Carson hopes to foster a sense of ownership and pride in hosting Olympic events. The initiative also aligns with the city's vision of becoming a thriving, diverse destination city with an unlimited future.
