Birmingham OB/Gyn has announced the development of the Birmingham OB/Gyn – Trussville Women's Health Center at The Pinnacle Shopping Center in Trussville, Alabama, aimed at expanding access to comprehensive women's healthcare for residents of eastern Jefferson, St. Clair, and Blount Counties. The new center will transform the practice's current limited clinic schedule into a full-time regional hub, offering appointments Monday through Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Friday from 8:00 a.m. until noon.
David Carmichael, Chief Executive Officer of Birmingham OB/Gyn, emphasized that this project is about more than just a larger office. "It's about making it easier for women to receive comprehensive healthcare closer to home," he said. The expanded services will include screening mammography, dedicated ultrasound services, Non-Stress Testing (NST), expanded laboratory services, and increased appointment availability. By consolidating these services, patients can complete annual wellness visits, mammography, and lab work in a single visit.
A key addition is the integration of 3D screening mammography through a partnership with Onsite Women's Health. This collaboration also introduces the Mammo with heart program, which uses AI to identify breast arterial calcifications (BAC)—a marker for cardiovascular disease—during routine mammograms. David Freedman, president and chief growth officer at Onsite, noted that this program helps women prioritize both breast and heart health in a trusted setting. Women with concerning BAC findings will be encouraged to follow up with their primary care physician or a cardiovascular specialist.
The center will complement Birmingham OB/Gyn's existing locations in Birmingham and Hoover and continue its partnership with Grandview Medical Center, where physicians will continue delivering babies and providing obstetrical care. Melissa Walker, Director of the Trussville Area Chamber of Commerce, welcomed the investment, stating that it brings vital services closer to home and strengthens families and quality of life.
The Trussville Women's Health Center is designed to serve women throughout eastern Jefferson County, St. Clair County, and Blount County. Construction is expected to begin in the coming months, with a grand opening announcement to follow. This initiative reflects Birmingham OB/Gyn's long-term vision of expanding access to comprehensive women's healthcare, reducing unnecessary travel, and improving preventive care outcomes.
