The 'Charm'tastic Mile' of Baltimore, a 1.3-mile corridor connecting downtown, the Inner Harbor, and Harbor East, has announced plans to seek a 100-year agreement with the City of Baltimore and Mayor Brandon Scott, valued at $1.25 billion. The proposal, outlined in a press release, details a phased financial commitment over the next century, with increasing annual values: $5 million per year for the first 25 years ($125 million), $10 million per year for the next 25 years ($250 million), $15 million per year for the subsequent 25 years ($375 million), and $20 million per year for the final 25 years ($500 million). The annual average across the 100-year period is $12.5 million.
The 'Charm'tastic Mile' is a USPTO registered trademark street, one of the few in the United States, joining the ranks of Chicago's Magnificent Mile, Rodeo Drive, and the Las Vegas Strip. It was introduced to Charm City on April 25, 2016, and celebrated its 10th anniversary in April 2026, recognized by Mayor Brandon Scott with a Certificate of Recognition and Governor Wes Moore with a Governor's Citation. The corridor's trademark registration was published on September 15, 2020.
The proposed agreement aims to solidify the 'Charm'tastic Mile' as one of the most famous and iconic streets in America, particularly as the city advances its nearly $1 billion construction project for the Inner Harbor. According to the press release, the corridor is already listed on Google search as one of the top 10-15 most famous streets in America. The 'Charm'tastic Mile' is described as a major catalyst behind the growing Famous Streets & Sports Culture In America, a trend expected to expand in a global economy.
Derrick E Vaughan, an analyst for Famous Streets & Sports Culture In America, is quoted in the release emphasizing the historic nature of the proposal, stating it is 'more than history for Baltimore, it's history for America.' The agreement, if signed during the 2026 calendar year, would be unprecedented in its length and scale for a city street designation.
The 'Charm'tastic Mile' website www.thecharmtasticmile.com provides further information about the corridor. The press release notes that the 'Charm'tastic Mile' shares its April 25 introduction date with the iconic Domino Sugars neon sign, which debuted 65 years earlier in 1951.
