Amy Hofland Named 2026 Bridges-to-Friendship Award Winner by Japan-America Society of Dallas/Fort Worth

The Japan-America Society of Dallas/Fort Worth (JASDFW) announced that Amy Hofland, Director of the Crow Museum of Asian Art at The University of Texas at Dallas, will receive the 2026 Bridges-to-Friendship Award. The award will be presented at the 28th Annual Sun & Star Legacy Awards Gala on April 15, 2026, at the Irving Convention Center.

The Bridges-to-Friendship Award recognizes individuals who have strengthened cultural understanding and fostered enduring connections between Japan, the United States, and the global community. Hofland's career in Asian art, education, and cultural exchange exemplifies this mission. As director of the Crow Museum, she leads the premier museum in the southern U.S. dedicated to Asian art and cultures. Since becoming executive director in 2002, she has expanded the museum's collection, launched major exhibitions, and developed wellness programming that bridges East and West.

Under her leadership, the Crow Museum collaborated with JASDFW and the University of Texas at Dallas Center for Asian Studies to host the 2026 Mochitsuki Japanese New Year celebration on January 11, which attracted approximately 2,000 attendees. The event featured traditional performances, mochi pounding demonstrations, and freshly made mochi, offering an engaging introduction to Japanese culture.

Hofland's emphasis on accessibility and community connection aligns with JASDFW's mission to strengthen U.S.–Japan relations through education and cultural understanding. Her impact on the Dallas Arts District and international cultural landscape is significant.

The gala will also honor Texas Governor Greg Abbott as the Special Guest of Honor and Sun & Star Legacy Award Recipient for his support of international business and cultural partnerships. JASDFW invites sponsorships to support educational programs and exchanges that deepen Japan-U.S. cooperation.
