For over three decades, spore trap cassettes have been a standard tool for collecting mold spores and other airborne particles. The core design, introduced in the mid-1990s by Dan Baxter of Aerosol Research Associates, Inc. with the Air-O-Cell cassette, remains widely used. AirTrap builds on this established methodology while refining the cassette's physical design to address current field and laboratory demands.
Key improvements include a flip-top cap system that reduces handling errors and minimizes sample contamination during transport. The cassette uses approximately 46% less plastic than traditional designs and features a recyclable housing, supporting more sustainable testing practices. Its durable polypropylene construction ensures reliability in field conditions, while a flatter collection surface enhances image clarity during laboratory analysis, including digital and AI-assisted microscopy.
AirTrap cassettes are fully compatible with standard air sampling pumps and established laboratory analysis methods, allowing seamless integration into existing inspection procedures without requiring changes to sampling technique. This compatibility makes them suitable for indoor air quality assessments, post-remediation verification, real estate inspections, school and university testing programs, cleanroom clearance, and routine environmental monitoring.
